Aravina Estate, established in 2010 by Perth businessman Steve Tobin is located on Thornton Road, Yallingup in the northern corner of the premium wine-growing region of Margaret River in Western Australia – close to the town of Dunsborough and the famed surf at Yallingup.
The mature vineyards, first planted in the sub-region of Yallingup in 1986, are located in free-draining, lateritic, gravelly soil that is perfect for growing ultra-premium wine grapes. The region has a strong maritime climate with the influence from the Indian and Southern Oceans giving rise to the finest fruit which has optimal flavour and intensity reflective of the unique ‘terroir’ or sense of place.
The wines are made and managed by winemaker, Jodie Opie who joined the team in 2011. Jodie has previously worked at Lenton Brae, Voyager Estate and also Xanadu in which she was the Western Australian consultant when it became Global Wine Ventures. She loves the diversity of the Margaret River wine region and has a minimalist approach to winemaking due to the exceptional quality of the fruit that comes from the Aravina property.
Aravina estate consists of 180 acres (73 hectares) of which 69 acres (28 hectares) are under vine with plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and recently planted Tempranillo and Malbec.
