Many of Australia's wine companies were founded by doctors such as Penfolds, Lindemans, Hardys, Angoves, Houghtons, Minchinbury and Stanley.

The Wine Doctor label, established by the medical and wine historian Dr Philip Norrie, also a Sydney GP, is a modern expression of this great tradition.
